Find out everything you need to know about how Clearing can help you secure a place at the UK's leading university for Future Skills.
With more than 70,000 students accepted through Clearing in the UK last year, Clearing is an opportunity for you to find the right course and the right university for you.
Clearing may be right for you if you:
You can find your place at university through Clearing from July until October, although some courses may close sooner if they’re full.
Download our free Clearing Guide which explains everything you need to know about the Clearing process, including top tips and advice from our students who have used Clearing themselves.
You can also join our Clearing mailing list to receive our latest Clearing news straight to your inbox.
I made a last-minute decision to go to university, so I checked out ΢ÃÜȦ’s website and saw they were offering the course I wanted to study through Clearing. It was a quick and easy process, and everything was sorted within two weeks.
Can't visit the University in person? Experience ΢ÃÜȦ through a guided tour of our state-of-the-art facilities.
The self-release tool allows you to release yourself into Clearing in order to accept an offer from another university.
This tool is available from July in your UCAS Hub. To avoid accidentally releasing yourself, the system incorporates several warnings to make sure you fully understand what you are about to do.
If you release yourself from your place at ΢ÃÜȦ by accident, don't worry. Providing the course still has spaces available, we’ll reinstate your offer with the same conditions as your original offer.
The Clearing Plus tool allows you to be matched to appropriate course(s) that you’re interested in at universities that have availability. This will show you where you can potentially secure your place at university.
Using the tool, you'll be able to express an interest in those matched courses and have the option to allow the university to get in direct contact with you. It’s available to unplaced applicants (students who haven't accepted any offers or have released themselves in to Clearing) in their Hub account.
The UCAS service allows you to move easily between universities if you change your mind about where or what you would like to study. In addition, UCAS are also offering individual support through emails, social media, and over the phone.
From when and how to apply through Clearing to accommodation options and student finance, we've got you covered.
If you need further support, give us a call on our Clearing line on 0800 0483 334* (or +44 20 8328 1149 if you are calling from outside the UK) from Monday 2 June.
*Calls from the UK are free of charge from all consumer landlines and mobile phones.
Clearing is part of the UCAS application process, allowing universities to fill any vacancies they may have on their courses following the release of results. It means that you have an opportunity to find a course to suit you, even if your results are not quite as expected.
You may find yourself in Clearing if:

If you do not meet the entry requirements displayed on the website, please do not be deterred from applying as we may still be able to offer you a place.

You can use UCAS Track to check whether your status is confirmed. If your status is not confirmed on UCAS Track, it may be because we haven't received everything we need from you or you are waiting for results.
You'll also be able to view your confirmation decision on ΢ÃÜȦ's online student information system (OSIS). This means that if you have any problems logging on to UCAS track, you can always log on to check OSIS instead. You will have already received your OSIS username and password from us via an email.

If you already have an offer of a place at ΢ÃÜȦ but you achieved slightly lower grades than you needed, we may be able to reconsider your application or offer you a place on a similar course.
Please keep an eye on UCAS Hub and ΢ÃÜȦ's online student information system (OSIS) regarding this.
You can also call our Clearing line and we will advise you on your options 0800 0483 334* (or +44 20 8328 1149 if you are calling from outside the UK).

Yes – while we can only consider existing marks when making you an offer, you may already have the points needed for the course you wish to study.
Remember to give us details of any outstanding grades or extenuating circumstances if you feel they could help your application.
Yes – even if your BTEC is incomplete, you may still gain credits for the units or modules you have completed.
Remember to give us details of any outstanding marks or extenuating circumstances if you feel they could help your application.
If you have already applied for funding, you will need to let Student Finance England know if you change university or course.
If you have already received a 'University or College Payment Advice' sheet make sure you upload this when you enrol at ΢ÃÜȦ – even if it has a different University named on it.
If you haven't already applied for funding, contact Student Finance England or your relevant funding body as soon as possible.
You can also read our fees and funding section for more information.
If you are applying to ΢ÃÜȦ through Clearing, we may still have some rooms available in our halls of residence.
Please note: Our accommodation is limited at this time of the year and is offered on a first come, first served basis to anyone who has received a course offer and has added ΢ÃÜȦ as their Clearing choice.
More about accommodation for Clearing applicants.
Many Clearing students choose to rent in the private sector. The benefits of this include:
The University's Accommodation team can help by providing:
Visit our Private student accommodation page for more information.
There are several ways you can get to know us a little better.
Our prospectus gives you a good insight into ΢ÃÜȦ, including an overview of our campus and facilities, student life and what courses you can study.
To take the stress out of Clearing, start researching universities and courses before you receive your results.
Before you call, please make sure you have the following information to hand:
It’s also very useful to have notes on the course you are applying for, some planned responses to questions you might be asked (such as why you'd like to study the course) and any questions you would like to ask the university.
Our Clearing line can also be very busy, so if you can't get through first time or the line is engaged, don't be put off.
We'll have a significant number of telephone lines open to deal with your queries and on results day itself, our Clearing line is open for extended hours.
Make sure that you call from a place where you feel comfortable and relaxed with easy access to phone and the internet. Whilst some Clearing places may go quickly, do take a moment to compose and prepare yourself.
It’s important that you make the call yourself, as universities are unable to discuss your application with another person. You should treat the call like a job interview, stay positive and sell yourself, and make sure you demonstrate an enthusiasm for your course and the university.
Have a pen and paper on hand to take some notes from your conversations. There will be details you'll want to remember, such as the person's name, job title, deadlines and a summary of what you discussed.
You probably have your heart set on a particular course, but you’re more likely to be successful in finding a place in Clearing if you’re flexible and consider similar courses to the one you originally applied for.
A lot of courses have similar content. When making your choice check the course content carefully to see if it interests you and consider what other options are available to you such as joint honours.
Remember, we have many courses that include a foundation year, which has lower entry requirements so do try and keep an open mind when discussing your options with our Clearing hotliners.
Selecting a course and university is a big decision so make a list of questions that will help you make an informed choice.
Ask about module choices, study abroad opportunities, scholarships, accommodation, Open Days etc.
Remember to find out what you need to do next if you want to accept the offer and if there is a deadline.
Most universities will give you a window during which their offer is valid, usually 12-48 hours; so make sure you add us as your Clearing choice before this time is up. On some selective courses there may be a first come, first served approach in these cases you should select us as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
You'll only be able to enter one Clearing choice at a time, so only enter a course you're sure you want to accept.
Remember to check the UCAS website for the exact time on results day you can confirm your choice on UCAS Hub. In the past, this has been 3pm on A-Level Results Day.
Once you have spoken to the universities you planned to contact, take some time to consider the options available to you and pick the course and university which is right for you, which we hope is ΢ÃÜȦ.
Congratulate yourself and celebrate securing your place at university with your friends, family and supporters.
It's also a good idea to visit the university to familiarise yourself and look around before you arrive for the start of term. We have a Clearing Advice Day on Saturday 16 August. We’ll have plenty of people on hand to answer any questions you may have.
